Abstract
In the year 2000, the BGBM started to digitize its herbarium collections using advanced scanner cameras producing high quality images with a resolution of 80 mega pixel. In parallel, an advanced image web-portal was developed offering convenient and detailed access to specimens using the flashpix format together with the software ZoomServer by MGI. One of the outstanding features of the system is that users can zoom to the greatest detail, even at low bandwidths.
In 2011, the BGBM deploys an improved and extended generation of this image system. Among other things, the software offers functions for
- improved management of image repositories (directories, uploads, downloads),
- annotating images with metadata (EXIF, IPTC),
- multi-client management,
- greatly improved visualisation-capabilities including advanced presentation of 3-D objects.
The computer demonstration will give an introduction to the new features and discusses their potential for networked collection information systems.
