Abstract


The annotations interest group will hold a working session to examine advances in annotation technologies over the last year including the potential applicability of the AO Annotation Ontology to the annotation of biodiversity data.Anticipated attendance: 20 Time needed: One normal length interest group session. Brief agenda: (1) Briefly review annotation mechanisms known to be in use in the Biodiversity Informatics Community. (2) Examine the AO Annotation ontology, its extension to the annotation of data, and its applicability to the annotation of biodiversity data. (3) Evaluate formation of a task group to draft an applicability statement on annotations. Expected outcomes: Informal statement on the AO annotation ontology. Plan for discussion of next steps in standardization of annotations in biodiversity informatics. New participants in the Annotations Interest Groups are encouraged.
