Abstract

The main objective of this searchable website is to make all relevant information on every Afrotropical moth species hitherto known, accessible to any user worldwide.

It contains information about taxonomy, host plants, parasitoids, distribution, related publications as well as specimen pictures.

This website provides an online database of the Afrotropical moth species (Lepidoptera), updated with the latest information obtained from published sources and from our own studies. It currently holds information on

  • family-group names: 520 (recognized families: 88)
  • genus-group names: 7,626 (recognized genera: 4,331)
  • species-group names: 35,597 (recognized species: 26,459)
  • photographs: 1,054
The current list is continuously updated and information on the original description, type locality, types and their depository, distribution and food plants is added on a regular basis. This checklist is mirrored by GBIF and the Catalogue of Life.
