Abstract

The Global Genome Biodiversity Network (GGBN) is a global network of collections of genomic tissue and DNA samples from across the Tree of Life, benefiting society through biodiversity research, development and conservation. One major goal is to provide open access to a global data management system hosting the aggregated primary specimen and sample data for all the member institutions. Based on the work done within the DNA Bank Network, which is one of the GGBN founding members, the GGBN Data Portal is using BioCASe and ABCD as well as a DNA extension for ABCD. The record details are aggregated from different resources. Multimedia items play an important role for the portal visitors and collection holders, since they enable easy access to identification parameters and increase verification and transparency in molecular research. We are also planning to use BioCASe and ABCDDNA as web service on top of the GGBN index database to feed third parties.
