Abstract
In early 2012 four of the world’s leading plant science institutions agreed to collaborate to support the development of the World Flora Online in response to Target 1 of the Global Strategy for Plant Conservation. The Missouri Botanical Garden, The New York Botanical Garden, the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh and the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew have joined together with a large number of other botanical institutions worldwide to spearhead the development of an online flora of all the world's plants. These institutions are collaborating to deliver this vital new initiative to support conservation and sustainable management of the world’s plant resources.
The initial work of the project is to agree on minimal standards for the information that will be provided and to find ways to systematically extend those standards. This presentation will discuss the processes that have been used so far and the ways that individual interactions both advance and impede the development of information standards.
