Abstract

The DINA-Specify consortium is an international partnership for collaborative development of an open-source, web-based information system for managing and sharing natural history data. DINA is the name of the Swedish project that initiated this consortium. It is also the name of the system as currently implemented for Swedish natural history collections. Target collections include zoological, botanical, geological and paleontological collections, living collections, observation records, and molecular data. Software components currently in use have been developed in collaboration with the Specify team in Kansas, eBiodiversity and Pluto-F developers in Estonia, and the natural history collections network in Denmark. Additional consortium members include the developer groups at the Harvard University Herbaria, Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada, and the Museum für Naturkunde (Berlin).
