Abstract

This workshop on documenting Darwin Core builds throughout each of four sessions over multiple days.  Each session will begin with a short presentation providing background, and outlining the scope and goals of the ensuing discussion.

Our focus for the first two sessions will be on  three of the most challenging terms: http://rs.tdwg.org/dwc/terms/Occurrence (dwc:Occurrence), http://rs.tdwg.org/dwc/terms/OccurrenceID (dwc:OccurrenceID), and http://rs.tdwg.org/dwc/dwctype/Occurrence (dwctype:Occurrence), as well as additional classes that have been proposed or discussed, and how those classes may affect the definition and scope of what an "Occurrence" is.

This session (Part 2) will focus on proposed classes that have implications for the definition of Occurrence (i.e., “Individual” class, “MaterialSample” class, and the not-yet-proposed “Evidence” class), and how these affect our ability to maintain globally unique identifiers for Occurrence records.
