Abstract

The MediaWiki software is most commonly known for being the software that runs Wikipedia. In combination with the Semantic MediaWiki (SMW) extensions it can be used to work with more structured, semantically enhanced data. Gregor Hagedorn, Andreas Planck and others have created a setup of SMW specifically designed for the creation of semantic vocabulary data, the TDWG Terms Wiki: http://terms.tdwg.org. It is hosted at the Biowikifarm (http://biowikifarm.net). It could be used as the central tool to create the new version of the ABCD (Access to Biological Collection Data) standard.

In this short demonstration we will take a look at the core principles of vocabulary creation based on Semantic MediaWiki and how certain features of the software can support a community driven development of ABCD 3.0.
