The Forest Herbarium Ibadan serves as the National Herbarium of Nigeria with over one hundred thousand (100,000) specimens. The digitization of the herbarium became necessary for the preservation of the fragile herbarium specimens, sharing of information regarding the specimens and making information about the fragile specimens accessible without handling the collections. The digitization project included the development of a Herbarium management information system to facilitate the entry of specimen data by operators with minimum computer skills. It also provides interactive platforms that allow complex queries of the specimen data with minimum training. The system was developed using Microsoft Visual Studio C#, .NET and Microsoft SQL Server.
